More and more exploration projects are tending towards subsea developments and the era of Deepwater, Sour Service and High Temperature, High Pressure production is beginning in earnest.
The Oil and Gas industry has a strong interest in Product Development that enhances performance, improves reliability and maintains costs.
A valve design that meets these criteria is a challenge to the industry. In terms of valve configurations, Through Conduit Gate Valves offer good sealing and low pressure drops but their dimensions, weight and cost make them unattractive for installation on SPSs. Ball Valves are more compact, and lower cost, with low pressure drops but their sealing characteristics are susceptible at high differential pressures. Needle Valves are a lightweight design that is easily damaged on sandy applications.
A Rotary Disc Valve is compact and robust, with good sealing characteristics and a negligible pressure drop across the Disc. A competitive solution for all subsea production applications might include a one-size, one-material, one-seal and one-type RDV configuration.
BEL Valves has designed and patented a Rotary Disc Valve that meets these criteria. The concept seeks to exploit the underlying philosophy that the ‘integrity of the valve is the sum of the integrity of the components.
The Rotary Disc Valve is a small bore, high integrity valve that offers significant advantages in weight-saving, space-saving and cost-saving. Supplied in bore sizes from ½” to 1’’ it is rated for services up to 16,500psi; -46 to +175 deg C and deepwater to 3000m. The product may also be offered from stock on lead times of 12 weeks or less.
