PRESSURE TESTING FACILITIES
BEL Valves have a comprehensive range
of product testing facilities. Results are captured
using computer based Data Logging. Test facilities include
safety cells for high pressure or high risk testing,
with remote visual monitoring via closed circuit TV.
Range of test facilities include:-
Cryogenic / Low temperature down to – 196 degrees
Centigrade
High Temperature – up to 300 Degrees Centigrade
Gas testing (typically Nitrogen)
Leak Detection using Nitrogen / Helium gas mix and Mass
Spectrometer
High Pressure Testing:
- Hydrostatic – up to 10000 Bar (150000 psi)
- Gas – up to 1550 Bar (22500 psi)
VALVE OVERHAUL AND RE-CERTIFICATION
BEL Valves offer a full Service backup for equipment
overhaul and re-certification on all work undertaken,
all work is guaranteed.
All work is carried out by Qualified BEL service technicians,
Dismantling / Inspection Reports (supplemented by photographs
of equipment) are completed and sent to the Client with
a quotation.
FAT where possible (Client approval) the original test
specifications will be carried out on the repaired equipment
for re-certification purposes.
Equipment being overhauled at BEL can be upgraded to
the latest designs in seal technology and hard coating
choices giving a longer working life expectancy than
the original design.
Example of Options available:-
1. Lip seals replacing O Rings on the Seat Rings
2. Tungsten Carbide replacing Stellite 6 as supplied
on older models.
VALVE MODIFICATION
When requested by clients, BEL Service will investigate
the possibility of modifying existing valves in the
process lines or which they have currently hold as spares.
This gives the client greater potential in utilising
stock which they may consider as redundant.
The costs for modification against buying of new equipment
is greatly reduced allowing major savings for the client.
Modifications carried out to date:-
- Manual Operated Valves to Electric Actuators
- Manual Operated Valves to either Hydraulic or Pneumatically
operated linear actuators with controls
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic actuators to increase the
speed of operation for use in ESD systems.
- Slab Gate valves to Split Gate Valves for double block
and bleed capability.
- Changing of valve body end connections to allow greater
use of stock valves.
REFURBISHMENT OF GATES, SEAT RINGS AND STEMS
It is BEL Valves policy of reducing the costs to the
end users, when possible the original Gates, Seat Rings
and Stems are repaired by replacing the Tungsten Carbide
coating on the Gate and Seat Ring sealing surfaces and
applying a coating of the super finish diameter (packing
area) of the Stem.
In most cases the repair costs are a minimum of 60%
less than the cost of new parts.
DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF TOOLING
BEL design tooling on request to allow
in line maintenance on all of our products, these cover
the following:
Actuator removal on valves in the horizontal plane (sizes
16” and Above)
Gate Removal
Removal and installation of Seat Rings in the valve
body chamber
DE-Springing of Actuators
Seat Extraction Tooling details
Hydraulic Actuator dismantling / Assembly Tooling
De-Springing Tooling
Hydraulic Spring Return models only
Used on the removal and re-assembly of the spring located
inside the actuator. This design of tooling has been
used extensively in BEL in assembly and on numerous
site visits when servicing equipment supplied by BEL.
Safety measures are incorporated in the design to ensure
safe working practices and methods are used.
Seal Sizing Tools
This equipment is supplied and used in two parts; First
stage Seal assembly and Second stage Seal assembly.
This is to ensure the sealing edges and designed dimensions
of the seals when fitted are achieved.

First Stage Seal Assembly
Equipment is used on all piston seals when being fitted.
These ensure the seal is fitted without over stretching
causing damage when being fitted into the closed groove
located in the piston diameter.
Second Stage Seal Assembly
Equipment is used on all piston seals when being fitted.
These ensure when the seal is fitted into the closed
groove located in the piston diameter, the sizing rings
are pulled over the seal and left to assist the seal
to return to its original size.
HYDRAULIC CONTROLS AND HYDRAULIC ACTUATORS
BEL also give service backup of our hydraulic /pneumatic
controls and hydraulically operated products using our
trained service technicians. These cover the following:-
Routine Maintenance / Repair
Fault finding
Flushing of the controls / Actuators using any of the
following methods:-
Standard Flushing (Mineral or water based fluids)
Hot oil Flushing
Chemical Flushing
All cleanliness fluid levels to a minimum of Nas 6 or
ISO fluid / system cleanliness are checked and verified
using the following equipment:-
Contamikit used for measuring the contamination level
of the hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic Fluid samples are taken and placed on a membrane
filter and ensures its molecular distribution under
a microscope in the same manner as such standards as
JIS B 9930 and SAE ARP 598 A. The results are compared
with standard contamination disc. The instruments are
portable and are used on site.
CUSTOMER PERSONNEL TRAINING
This can be carried out at BEL Newcastle, England or
on site (available upon request). The training will
include the following as a minimum requirement:-
- Design technology (the design make up of the equipment)
- Methods of functioning the equipment
- Hands on (examine parts and build/dismantle the equipment)
- Fault Finding
- Routine Maintenance methods and procedures to be used
Duration is dependant on the detail standard required
by the customer.
