Skills

Skills

Planning for the long term – skills development to ensure continuity into the future.

Dealing with experts in their field throughout the life of a project will always facilitate optimum solutions.

Whether specifying, designing integrated systems or dealing with pioneering projects valves are often project critical elements requiring a depth of knowledge which can be hard to find.

That’s why we focus on, and have always invested heavily in our skills development.

Apprenticeships

Starting with the new entrants to the industry. We have run our Apprenticeship programme for over 40 years, and since 1966 have successfully put over 700 engineers through the scheme.

25% of all our current employees have been through the programme and we continue to develop the qualifications working closely with Newcastle College and Newcastle University.

The training we provide gives a mix of academic and hands on training for 4 years and from that point on we focus the training on the needs of our customers having been heavily involved in developing subsea foundation degrees at Newcastle college and a Masters’ degree at Newcastle university.

Engineering Skills

There is a process of on-going development to support learning within our Design and Production Engineering disciplines and our engineers are encouraged to continue their learning whatever their level of experience.

BEL Valves have been active in the development of the foundation degree in subsea engineering which develops skills in Pipeline Fundamentals & Umbilicals, Riser, Project Management, Subsea Control Systems, Maintenance Techniques, Engineering Design, Quality Systems and Health and Safety.

We are also heavily involved in supporting the MSc in Subsea Engineering and Management and Newcastle University’s Continuing Professional Development for Engineering disciplines.

Our Engineers gain from recent learning and practices and gain understanding from working with businesses other than valve suppliers during the course.

And nce qualified there is on-going support and encouragement for our engineers to obtain their Chartered status.

And of course ultimately our customers benefit from innovative but robust engineering practices.
