As an essential part of any effective business we endeavour to provide relevant, informative and up to date information to our customers and to our employees.
Employee engagement
With over 400 people employed at BEL Valves the effective engagement of our employees is an important aspect to deliver best in class service to our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
As with most businesses information is often and regularly cascaded through line management, team meetings and regular one to ones.
However there are wider company issues that warrant alternative methods of communications.
Newsletters
Our monthly newsletter shares company information with all our employees. As you would imagine it delivers the up to date information regarding all the financial metrics you would expect; order intake, turnover and profit.
The first priority within our business is safety (please see our separate section) and the measurement and reporting of our statistics is shared with all employees. We feel that this not only provides a benchmark for improvement, but also use it to provide ‘lessons learnt’ to a much wider audience.
We then share information from each sector of the business so that everyone gets a ‘flavour’ for what their peers have been achieving of the previous month and in the process share best practice. We report on Marketing events, New Product Developments, Project Milestones, Continuous Improvement, Service and Operational Effectiveness to name just a few.
Of course there is always a place for our sports and social events. Which leads nicely onto the BEL Valves Open Day.
BEL Valves Open Day
We held this year’s family day at the BEL Valves site at St Peter’s Newcastle where visitors where able to tour all the Operational facilities and see some of the many of the continuous improvement measures that have come to fruition.
And for the children (and a good proportion of the adults) there were bouncy castles, climbing walls, Scalextric, face painting, laser shoot out, bungee trampolines and much more! A great day was had by all.
Coast To Coast Cycle Challenge
This October, 28 members of BEL Valves have taken part in the Coast to Coast cycle challenge, this years event was all the more poignant due to the untimely death of one of the previous participants.
The event which lasted 3 days involved cycling from Whitehaven in Cumbria and back to Tyneside, an overall total of 147 miles. The renowned difficult cycle was no different for the members of BEL Valves, but was thoroughly enjoyed by every member of the team, and is already being discussed as a future event.
The 28 cyclists have managed to raise a staggering £4,700 which will be split between the Stroke Association, in respect of Davey Leigh’s family’s wishes and Cancer Research UK.
Employee Reviews
Some information just doesn’t come across on paper and we feel that two way communication is valuable to everyone within the business. That’s why we also hold quarterly ‘feedback’ sessions in the form of all employee reviews.
These give ‘life’ to some of the information reported in the newsletter and also provide an opportunity for two way communication and feedback.
